A screw press, orauger press, is a robust mechanical solution designed for efficient dewatering and compression of Brewer’s Spent Grain (BSG)—the fibrous residue generated during beer production. By extracting moisture and concentrating solids, this equipment helps convert BSG into a valuable byproduct while reducing disposal challenges for craft Breweries and large-scale brewing facilities.
The system typically comprises a helical screw rotating within aperforated cylinder, which applies gradual pressure to the wet BSG. As the screw advances, liquids (whey-like fractions) drain through the screen, while the dry, fibrous cake is discharged at the press’s outlet. This process reduces BSG moisture content from 80% to 20–30%, enhancing its storage stability and transportability.
